Gran Canaria Hotel guide

South
North

So you want a cheap break but you don't know where to go? we haven't been to every hotel in Gran Canaria but we've stayed in every resort many times so we can give pretty good advice.

Where to go

The South

Bahia Feliz / San Fernando - Small resorts, with cheap to super expensive hotels. The beaches aren't great in this part of the island but the resorts are pretty nice and the hotels tend to be a little better than in the main resorts of Playa del Ingles. Night life is limited but if you want a quiet weekend in the sun you won't go far wrong by going here.

Playa del Ingles - If you want to party, this is where to go, all the nightclubs and bars are there and there are loads of big cheap hotels. If you want to catch up on your English soaps, get trashed in an Irish bar, head to a nightclub until the early hours and then finish off with bacon and eggs at eight in the morning then this is where to come.

Maspalomas - Not as hectic as Playa del Ingles but still has all the restaurants and bars you'll need.

Campo de Golf - tends to have small independent bungalows around one or two shared pools - a lot quieter and you get bigger, usually self catering rooms. An easy taxi ride to Playa del Ingles but you don't get the noise at night.

Sonnenland - Situated behind Maspalomas about 5 minutes drive from the beach. Nice bungalows around shared pools, can often get great bargains for couples or small families. It is quiet but there aren't many restaurants and bars within walking distance.

Puerto Rico - Like Playa del Ingles is pretty tacky and noisy but there are a few nice hotels / apartments if you head out of the centre.

Tauro / Mogan
- Nice smaller resorts that have a few good hotels and the standard bars and restaurants - more familified and you won't find the big nightclubs like Puerto Rico and Playa del Ingles.

The North

Las Palmas
There are a number of hotels in Las Palmas and again the best place to book is alpharooms. If you want something a bit special the best ones are the Hotel Santa Catalina , where the royal family stay when they are visiting, the AC hotel with the highest restaurant in the capital (a bit of a business hotel though) and the Sol Melia ono Las Canteras beach

Guide to getting the best deals

Where to book
Cheapest - you want cheap or good value, looking for a bungalow or a room in a hotel but you're not bothered about super exclusivity - the best website by far is www.alpharooms.com, use our booking form above to find out prices and book your weekend break. It has loads of hotels and we have never found anywhere cheaper. You can usually book up to the day before, but the sooner you book the better choice you get.

Quality - So you want to treat your new lady friend to a bit of 5 star luxury? Or just feel like a weekend all-inclusive, there are a couple of websites that you should visit before settling for second best.

Lopesan Hotels
A little known website that often has fantastic offers is the Lopesan hotel group website they have offers for all the Lopesan hotels in Gran Canaria. The best hotels to go to are the Villa Conde and Costa Meloneras both have fantastic food and really high quality facilities.

RIU Hotels
The RIU group often have promotions visit the RIU website to find out what they have to offer. The Hotel in Amadores is well worth a visit.

Cordial Mogan Playa
Another luxury hotel that's worth a stay is the Cordial Mogan Playa although to date we haven't found a website that offers extra cheap deals.

Although we have trawled the internet many many times and think we are hotel booking gurus we also realise that we do not know every site on the internet. If you know of any websites or any great hotels that we have missed please add it to the form below and we'll add it to the website.
