Like everyone here I want to move to GC. Playa del ingles beckons ! My background is in computers, I am self employed here and have a successful business . I now want to move over there, but need to work also - i dont think i have much hope of getting computer work on a spanish speaking island no matter how qualified i am, so the only other thing i can do is play music...i used to play full time years ago, but gave it up for a "proper" career. Anyway does anyone know or has anyone "been there and bought the t-shirt" ? Any realistic advice on starting out.

Hi, I'd give the job centre

Hi, I'd give the job centre a call for advice with jobs 0034 928779837. Don't worry about the Spanish, most jobs that require Spanish are given to people who are from here so try for an English speaking job. There are English schools here, but if your boy is only 3 he would fit straight in at a Spanish school and would learn Spanish very quickly and on top of that the state schools are free. If you want him to go to a British school. Have a look at our schools section and give one of the schools in the south a call they cost about 400€ a month. If you need any more advice send us some specific questions and I'll try to forward them onto someone who might know. Good luck with the move.

Schools in the South

Hi, if he goes to a state school he won't have much English in the classroom. The times are 8.30 to 1.30 or 2.00. Again, you will have to speak to the schools when you get here. It is unlikely the receptionist will speak English, so better to go with someone when you get here. Regarding accomodation. Give this guy a call,

Ramon Sanchez Bruhn
Cardenas Real Estat

Tel.: 0034 928 150 650

he is an estate agent we work with. He'll be able to sort you out for a few weeks, and while you're here ask around, there is always accomodation or flat shares available in the south.

Richard, The computer work i

Richard,
The computer work i do is repairing, networking etc. Not a programmer at all. My business here is basically computer shop/ sales and repairs without getting into too much about it. Musically being Irish, I play traditional Irish..banjo/whistle/ been a guitar player many years, mostly rock ...any hope ?? Thanks again for your response .

Computer work and singing

Hi, there is computer work on the island especially programming work in the south. It will pay pretty badly to begin with though. If you let me know what computer experience you have I can let you know where to start. Regarding music - if you have a band or are a good singer and can perform there is work, but you will have to actively find it - as far as I know there are no agencies. But i do know of people who make a living performing. Again let me know what type of music you do and I'll try to find a few contacts for you who may be able to help you out.

re: Singing work

Dear Mr CLarke,

I saw your reply to one of the members and was wondering if you could help...

Ive just moved to the island and am now trying to find work as a singer..
I am from London and have been doing musicals for the past 13 years.I was in a westend show in London and I also did touring shows around UK and around europe.

Im trying to find work in hotels but i just dont know where to start.
Please email me on rasocuk@hotmail.com if you can help.

Thank you very much for your time and looking forward to hearing from you.

Singing work in GC

give the job Centre a call on 928779837, they should be able to help you out. Otherwise the only people I know who do singing work found work by going around the hotels. I know the Costa Meloneras, Villa del gran Duque and most of the hotels in Meloneras do have singers most nights so it might be worth visiting them. Regarding agencies, I don't know of any but the Job Centre may be able to help you out.
