Deep Sea fishing

Gran Canaria offers some of the best deep sea fishing available in the world with Marlin, Tuna and swordfish often caught.

Fishing boats are available for charter in the south of Gran Canaria, mostly from Puerto Rico and are usually fully equipped to catch even the biggest fish. For those who know about their deep sea fishing the boats boast up-to-date equipment including a Lees fighting chair, Tuna outriggers, rod holders to accommodate up to 9 rods and a spacious cockpit area.

What to catch
From May to September, the ultimate aim is to catch the "King of the Sea", the exclusive Blue-Marlin, the biggest fish in the waters off the Canary Islands, weighing in at up to 1,000 lbs. This time of year is also good for White Marlin, Spear-fish, Big-eye and Yellow-fin, Tuna, Mako, Blue and Hammerhead Shark and Barracuda.

From October to April, most fishing is aimed at the bottom of the ocean, when Rays and Congereels being the biggest catches although catching Tuna is also possible at this time of year.

Day trips
The trips usually leave the harbour every morning at 9 am and are back at 3 p.m and during the summer evening trips are also offered. These start at 3 pm and finish at 8 p.m.
The crew speaks a variety of languages, including English, German, French, Dutch and Spanish.

Some of the trips serve a free lunch and drink with cold beers and mineral water available upon request. Prices are usually about 45 euros/ person and slightly cheaper if you book the whole boat (8-10 people).
If you don't want to fish you can join the trips as a spectator and take the opportunity to view dolphins, turtles and flying fish and if you're lucky you may even see some whales.

As members of the Billfish Foundation most of the crew on the trips prefer to tag and release all the billfish
