While Las Palmas might not offer the same diversity in it´s nightlife as somewhere like Milton Keynes, there is still plenty to offer hardened drinkers and desperate singletons, so they tell me.
In terms of bars, in or around Plaza Farray is a good place to start the night and regular meeting place for the foreign community. Bodegon Pachichi is incredibly cheap and takes the term ´no frills` to new heights.
From here you can move on to the nearby Calle Franchy Roca. This street has a string of bars and nightclubs catering for a variety of tastes. You can find salsa (El malecon de la Habana), 80´s cheese in (Treinta y Tantos,) indie and dance for students or just the unwashed (Paraninfo).
Within walking distance of Calle Leon y Castillo are El Camel and El Galeon ,which offers free drinks for girls between 11.00 p.m and 12.45 a.m. Discoteca Dojo and Pickup are options to finish of the night but beware of a strict door policy in the latter.
Alternatively you can head to Vegueta, in particular Calle Mendizabal which provides a number of options including Soultrain for bump and grind specialists. Also in this zone is La Floridita which plays Spanish and English music and has the added bonus of a garden out the back to escape the usual late night stench.
For live music, head to La Guarrida on the beachfront which often has rock, blues and jazz musicans. The Charelston Café in Calle Buenos Aires (near Triana) while being quite a small venue has a good atmosphere later on and has been known to allow customers to get up and perform.
Finally look out for regular nights in various venues with DJ´s or musicans from the foreign community . These will be advertised on this site and a popular social networking site. You know the one.
We don't go out in the south enough so we don't know the best places to go, so please help us out and leave comments below on the best bars and restaurants.
